The “handshake” communication example displayed here is of the enable (WDEN) signal command from the MCU. The WDEN (ON) signal is sent from the MCU. At the supervisor IC, the expected signal should be “HIGH”. However, if the signal is shorted to GND or not “HIGH”, the supervisor IC will send a “LOW” signal response via “WDOUT” output to the MCU. The MCU will detect it and provide the proper alert when the WDEN (LOW) signal is sent from the MCU. At the supervisor IC, the expected signal should be “LOW”. However, if the signal is “HIGH” due to a short to VCC or other power line, the supervisor IC will send a “HIGH” signal response via “WDOUT” output to the MCU.
