MxL76508 Fast-PWM Synchronous Step-Down Converter

The MaxLinear MxL76508 is a fully integrated synchronous step-down converter designed for high-efficiency power delivery in compact systems. It supports up to 8 A continuous output current across a broad 3 V to 18 V input range. The device utilizes a proprietary constant on-time (COT) control scheme, enabling fast transient response and stable operation with low ESR ceramic capacitors. Three selectable operating modes—PFM, ultrasonic (UA), and forced PWM—allow optimization for efficiency, noise, or ripple performance depending on application requirements.

Protection features include input undervoltage lockout (UVLO), input overvoltage protection (OVP), cycle-by-cycle current limiting, thermal shutdown, and hiccup mode short-circuit protection. An open-drain power good signal provides output voltage monitoring. The MxL76508 is available in a compact 16-pin 3 mm × 3 mm QFN package, suitable for space-constrained designs.
