In summary, current can be measured in a variety of ways, from conventional current sense resistors to magnetic field detection solutions, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Within the magnetic field detection methods, MI technology is 100x and 10x more sensitive than Hall and xMR solutions respectively. This sensitivity allows more distance between the sensing element and the power trace; this equates to no power loss at the sensing element and higher sensing range. Finally, the unique power line trace configuration allows for shield-less sensor design reducing system cost and maintaining sensing accuracy.
