The LTC4233 and LTC4234 are 10A and 20A hot swap controllers with an integrated MOSFET and current sensing, for 2.9V to 15V supplies. By integrating the two most critical and largest hot swap components, the power MOSFET and sense resistor, these controllers reduce design time and save valuable board area. A unique feature of these controllers is that the internal MOSFET’s safe operating area or SOA is production-tested and specified to ensure a rugged hot-plug solution. A ground-referenced signal proportional to the load current passing through the internal sense resistor can be monitored using an external analog-to-digital converter. The current limit can be reduced from its default with a single external resistor, affording quick adjustment for dynamic load changes and various applications. Selectable under-voltage and overvoltage thresholds protect downstream loads against voltages outside a valid window, preventing circuit malfunction and damage. The LTC4233 and LTC4234 controllers are offered in pin-compatible 38-pin 5mm x 9mm QFN packages.
